Gayann H

INSTRUCTOR PROFILE:

I hold a teacher’s assistant certification and have a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Alberta (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada) with a major in elementary education and minor in math and science. I am a certified Balanced Literacy educator in both reading and writing.

I taught grades 5 and 6 for nearly 10 years with the same district before moving to Arizona. I am currently a substitute teacher and have been both a reading and math interventionist for a local school district. I have over twenty years of combined experience supporting students one-on-one and in a group setting.

I often connect with students by observing and understanding what motivates and interests them. Figuring out strengths in one area can be useful in helping a student’s weakness in another. I try to make learning fun and encourage and guide students to take control of their learning to help foster a love of learning.

I love being involved with my own children’s learning and extracurricular activities. I am often either on my way to a practice or meet or picking someone up from one. I also love to run, cycle and walk my dog. My family loves to travel and we are always searching for the next adventure.

For Peak Academics I work with elementary students in math, reading, homework management, and executive functioning skill development.
